Mental Case 2.0
Hey!!
I'm looking forward to Mental Case 2.0!!! Any word on the progress? Mental Case was a great tool for my Bachelor degree that I just finished. Now, as a first year Dental Student I'm finding mental case to be extremely useful!! I've turned on several class mates to the idea of using mental case, too. So far about 10 of them have bought the app from the mac app store. Keep us posted on 2.0! I'm way excited for it!

Please include me on the beta testing as well! Thanks for a great app!

I would really love to be part of the beta testing if it is still possible. I use MC daily for dental school. I have made over 1500 flashcards and anxiously look forward to the added functionality of 2.0 to make studying these quicker and easier. I have a MB with Lion. Thanks!

Honestly, I'm a little bit puzzled now; now that I've come across this thread.
You're making MC 2.0 a Lion only release. Ok, that's your decision and more often than not it's really good to start anew. For me that means: for the next few (or more) months I'll be barred from MC 2.0, since I'm running Snow Leopard. Nevertheless, I hope you'll stick to your promise of your newsletter of Jan 11: Buy MC at the App Store (even if you've already bought it), because the update to 2.0 will be free of charge. Now with the Lion thingy, when you're releasing MC 2.0 I am not able to upgrade immediately. Hope the free upgrade will be valid for MC 2.x too...
Second, you're talking about iCloud syncing. I am certainly not in favor of having all my data online (call me backwards if you like to...) but I definitely see the advantages. Nevertheless: does the iCloud syncing mean that that's going to be the only way to sync? Will there still be the WLAN way? Will it be incremental or does this need the iCloud? My MC database has several Gigabites; certainly don't want this data block clutter up my (hypothetical) iCloud account...

Hey!
I would like to help by testing the beta, if there still is need for that. I used Cram for my last exam and it worked pretty well but there doesn’t seem to be much development going on anymore...
Especially features like iCloud integration and Fullscreen mode make Mental Case 2 quite interesting. Also I’d like to see support for creating multiple choice tests (like Cram).
I’m using a MacBook Air (late 2010) with Lion.

Hi Christian (and others),
We are winding up beta testing, so won't add to the list.
We plan to submit the final app to Apple in a few days. Should be in the app store in a few weeks.
Kind regards,
Drew

Hi Tobias,
Free upgrade to MC 2.0 applies for anyone who purchases via the Mac App Store, whenever you decide to upgrade. Staying on version 1.9 for a few months is no problem.
We are not sure whether we will support WLAN syncing. It brings a lot of problems with it, and iCloud is much better, and easier from our perspective (which means it is probably also more stable). Syncing several gigs over WLAN is not possible now anyway, at least the way we have set up syncing in 1.9, and we are not keen to have to rewrite all of that to support incremental syncing in addition to iCloud.
So if WLAN syncing does remain, I'm afraid it will not be any better than what we currently support. We don't want to plough a lot of resources into that when iCloud is a much better solution (IMHO).

Drew,
syncing several Gigs via WLAN does work, even though you know that I've been having problems every now and then, so any update for "incremental" sync would be highly appreciated.
However, I do see your point and that you're very enthusiastic about iCloud (incremental) sync. But please, keep the WLAN sync in there in the new version, even if it's not updated, and let the user decide if he or she wants to use iCloud. Your MentalCase is one of the most "influential" apps that I have on my Mac+iPhone, and it would be such a pity to be constrained to a service that I don't necessarily want to support. (Hey, I love Apple and I guess iCloud will be huge, but is really nobody worried about having all different sort of one's data on Apple's servers?)

I've had lots of data on Apple's servers for years. I actually trust them more than say, google, who likely sifts it looking for advertising opportunities.
In any case, I see your point, but I think most people want cloud syncing, and have been asking us for it for a long time.
We'll try to keep a wifi syncing option, but it will likely be less capable than the cloud option.
The move to the cloud is a big one. We are basically going to an 'all-devices-equal' model, where the wifi sync is the old 'digital hub' with Mac central.

Hi Kaveh,
I'm afraid we won't be releasing any more beta releases. We are in the last few days of development, and are about to submit to Apple. So hopefully you can get the final release in a few weeks time.
Sorry, and thanks for offering.
Kind regards,
Drew
