whichever device is more convenient at the time and create cards at
random study the cards when I have a chance. So taking a preference
for creating cards on one machine is not really an option for
me.

I have been using both the iOS version on the iPad and the Mac
version to create cards. The problem is when I sync with the Mac.
If I create cards on the Mac, they sync with the iPad, but when I
create cards on the iPad, they don't always sync with the Mac.
Especially if I create cards on both before I sync or make
alterations to cards on the iPad that were created on the Mac. It
seems as though the two-way sync is not so two-way with the Mac
having the preference. I currently have all three checkboxes
checked in the options menu for syncing but I'm not sure what the
right combination really is. I want things to sync both ways and
not lose cards unless they are deleted by me.

If you could provide some assistance, or maybe a step-by-step of
how to set up the preferences in both apps to make real two-way
sync possible, I would greatly appreciate it.

Brandontag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/68464792011-04-26T16:24:03Z2011-04-26T16:24:03ZSync erases cards on iOS

I think sync should work fine if you check the box that says to
copy back new cards created on the touch device.
Are you sure the notes are disappearing?
You can't sync one device with two macs. The way our syncing is
setup, this will cause problems.
Kind regards,
anywhere on either device. I have been syncing with multiple macs,
but I have been copying the App Support file from one Mac to the
other after syncing the iPad. Could this be causing the
problem?

I have all the boxes checked in the sync window.

How exactly does the sync "handshake" work? ...all new cards are
copied to the Mac and then the whole database is transferred. What
happens when card are deleted or moved on either end? Maybe if I
had a better understanding of the sync process, I could try to
prevent the problem myself without bothering you guys.

Thanks for the extremely quick response.

Brandontag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/68464792011-04-26T17:43:15Z2011-04-26T17:43:15ZSync erases cards on iOS

Hi Brandon,

Basically, the iPad keeps track of which notes and cases are new
or have been updated since the last sync with any Mac. When the
next sync happens, whichever Mac that is, it will send back the new
notes and cases, and updates. As long as the Mac can find the
updated notes and cases, it should work. The Mac then sends back
all of the new stuff, replacing everything on the iOS device.

So, to be honest, I think what you are doing should work. I'm
not sure why it wouldn't.

Might be worth backing up your data, and then doing a few tests,
creating a few new cards, and updating some, and then syncing with
different Macs to see if it is OK.
