Studies IOS crashes when beginning study
OK, this seems like a bug.
I made a combination of a group with several subgroups holding each
a bunch of flashcards.
There's several levels or layers :
ICONS
--LEVEL 1 ---111 flashcards
---112 flashcards
---113 flashcards
(etc)
So, in Studies, when I select the source, whatever level it be, either on the ICONS level, or any sub-level, when I hit "begin study", the app crashes...
Is this due to imbedded layers and sublayers?

Can you try this again with today's beta?
If it still happens, can you make a couple of screenshots to show exactly how you are doing it?

ok,
we're dealing with PDFs.
In Studies OS X all is ok : images are displayed correctly and I can launch a study session going to the highest hierarchical group ("ICONS") [screenshots 1-3).
When importing in the latest iOS beta (Studies 1.0 (6)) the individual notes are visible (thumbnails?) [screenshot 4]. But when trying to open them to edit, the flashcards are empty [screenshot 5].
When trying to launch a study session when prompting as source the highest hierarchical group ("ICONS") the app crashes [no screenshot].
When selecting the lowest highest hierarchical group (an individual stack : 111, 112, etc..), the app yields a study session with empty flashcards.

Yep, that sounds like I forgot to convert the PDFs. That’s what happens unfortunately: iOS can’t display them as images.
I will look into this. Thanks!

BTW are all PDFs like this, or just some? Can you send me one that had this problem?

I'll send you the exported study archive of the ICONS group.

Hi, any update on this ?
I'd like to transfer those stacks to my iOS studies app.

I’m looking into it now. It is a major problem. Did this ever work in Mental Case? I suspect it didn’t.
I may find a solution, but it will involve converting the PDFs to PNG internally on the Mac.

I have made changes to the Mac app that now converts PDFs to PNGs. This allows PDFs to appear in the iOS apps.
Unfortunately, because this is a change in the Mac app, you will not be able to test it until we release our next version of that, which could be a couple of weeks. Apple have to review those changes.
To get it to work for the notes you already have in the Mac, you will have to load those notes. That is when the conversion happens. You can load the notes by opening them to edit, or by starting a slideshow with them. Once they are converted, they should sync to iOS and work. New notes should automatically work.
I have updated the iOS app so that it at least does not crash anymore. But at the moment, the PDFs still do not display. Only when the Mac app is updated, will the PDFs show on iOS.

Found a way to do the conversion on iOS too, so next beta should fix the issues.

ok, looking forward to it.
When will the next iOS beta ship?

Probably a few days.

just updated to latest beta.
Tried to import same archive as before (exported from Studies as studies archive).
Still crashing when importing...
No go for me ...

How are you importing? I just synced it across, and seemed to work.

Manually thru Fileapp, then "open in...".
But now the archive is bigger than what I uploaded. Still just a mere 48,5 Mo though.
I'll try again with a partial import.

OK, update :
I tried again with the original archive of 6 Mo I uploaded.
First, Studies tells me "import successful", but the archive isn't displayed in the library.
When importing again from Fileapp, it works, but I'm having a double archive. At least it works.
Now, trying to do the same with the bigger archive I mentioned, Studies still crashes.
Should I upload it somewhere ?

I think the first import did work, it just was taking time to show up in the list.
I know why the big archive is failing. It is due to memory usage. I will look into that.

Hi, any update on this?
Support Staff 19 Posted by drewmccormack on 11 Apr, 2016 06:24 AM
I’ve fixed it. Will be in the next beta.
In the meantime, I recommend just importing on the Mac, or importing smaller archives.
