Then below this is a header titled "Recommendations" and below that 24 files. There is an EDIT option which toggles the ability to select any of these files and delete it, presumably to free up storage space. This is the only app I have that has this "Recommendations" group. The 24 files are four sets of six files, which presumably correspond to the the same files as can be viewed in the Files app that I mentioned in my previous post, except that these all share the same date and time stamp, which goes back to the time I installed the app. (I deleted the app on Jan 24 and then reinstalled it to see if it might help to clean up whatever might be causing problems, and I actually took note of the time of the install).

I assume the "recommendations" are offered for deleting these files because they are old and no longer used, having been replaced with the files that you can view with the Files app. Do you show recommendations such as these on this page in Settings with your phone?
Do you think I could/should delete these?

Thanks

zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/473693052019-06-20T07:05:43Z2019-06-20T07:05:43ZSettings > General > iphone Storage > Studies offers recommendations for files to delete ...

I have never heard of this before. Sounds like something Apple have done, and indeed may be based on modification date.

If those are the same ones as in Files, you certainly should not remove them. Otherwise your data will be gone. Unless they are some sort of backup Apple has made. But I personally would not risk it.

Kind regards,
Since I don't have cloud sync active I wouldn't think there would be any lingering repercussions if something fails and I restore my back up.

The fact that you don't have any showing on your phone would seem to indicate they are extra files on my phone that the app hasn't cleaned up.

zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/473693052019-06-21T01:20:42Z2019-06-21T01:20:42ZSettings > General > iphone Storage > Studies offers recommendations for files to delete ...

Was able to determine by using the features of the Files app to add create some folders and copies of files to see what files were what. The files in shown in the Settings app are indeed the files in the library and backup folders shown in the files app, but for some reason the Settings app I guess uses the creation date rather than the date last modified.

What actions triggers the Studies app to create backups?

zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/473693052019-06-21T08:41:49Z2019-06-21T08:41:49ZSettings > General > iphone Storage > Studies offers recommendations for files to delete ...

Studies creates a backup every couple of days, and discards old ones. That is a very recent feature. Just a fallback for if things really go wrong.
