Differences between free app and 2.99 app? Also, Is scheduling from Version One retained with import to Version 2?

If I understand correctly, the only difference between the free Version 2 app and the Pro ($2.99) Version 2 app is the sync method (free is by wifi and Pro is by cloud)? Otherwise, all the new features are available in both?

Also, will I lose my scheduling if I import all my existing cards to the either of the new Version 2 options? I have about 2000 cards, so it would be a disaster to lose the scheduling and suddenly have 2000 cards all due and scheduling as if I have never studied them before.

The differences between free and 2.99 varieties are described on the store page. Note that neither has wifi sync. Wifi sync is only available in the old Mental Case app.

    Free
    No syncing
    Only long-term schedule (spaced repetition)
    No sharing via iCloud
    No custom slideshows
No access to FCE or Quizlet

    Paid
    iCloud sync
4 extra schedules, including a Leitner based one (cram)
    Sharing via iCloud with others
    Flashcard Exchange/Quizlet access

The scheduler in MC 2 is somewhat difference. We made every effort to keep your schedule at a similar position, but there can be some anomalies.
Note you can install the new app, migrate your data, try it, and if it is no good, just keep using the old app. Your old app will not be removed, nor your data replaced. No risk.

    Kind regards,
    Drew

Thanks, this is helpful information. I take it by "no syncing" in the Free app, that means that all the cards must be created using the ipod or iPhone, or else create them with some other program from which you can export a CSV file somewhere on the device, then importing the CSV from that location on the device to the Free app. I don't study at all using the mac, but do create cards on it from time to time so that I have the ease of using a real keyboard. I can't imaging creating them using the ipod touch keyboard. And I can't see going through those steps of importing the CSV file to add cards, so the $2.99 for the Pro will be well worth it.

But it brings to mind a question about scheduling. If I upgrade to Pro, which programs is determining the scheduling -- the mac or my iPod?

I suppose I might create a single "Version 1" case under which I place all my existing cases, and select that case when doing a sync with the current app. Then place all my future cases under a "Version 2" case that I can select with iCloud syncs, assuming it still lets me choose the cases I am syncing. But I will try the migration first.

When syncing with iCloud, both devices schedule, and they sync up their due notes.

You can't select what to sync with iCloud, though you should still be able to work with the version 1 notes over wifi, and just ignore them on the iPhone in MC2.

I always select "Study All Due Notes" when I study (and "Resume Previous" until I finish that group of due notes).

If I were to go with a plan of a main case named "Version 1" that in turn contains all the cases with old stacks , and another main case named "Version 2" that contains all the new cases within it, how do I ignore the notes due in Version 1 and study all those in 2. Can I do this by selecting Version 2 and then choosing "Lesson Notes Only" ? I've never used it, so I'm guessing (hoping) that "Lesson Notes Only " means notes that are now scheduled as "due."

The best way would be to use out new custom sideshows. You select the version 2 case as source, and switch on "Due Notes Only".

Well, I downloaded the Free app and clicked on the migrate button. This actually took a few hours to complete (I have 5300 cards, no images or sound). When it finished the icon on the iPod showed as if all the cards were due, which was disappointing. Until I clicked on the icon and opened it, and then it updated to reflect the same correct number of due cards as on the old app (just four). So so far a success! :)

Now I will buy the $2.99 upgrade. The ipod scheduling in MC2 is now equivalent to the desktop, correct?

So next I suppose I will cloud sync the desktop version first, followed by cloud sync of the $2.99 upgrade app. From that point, I may not have to cloud sync the desktop that often since I don't study on it-- only when I've edited or created cards on the desktop that I need to get transferred to the iPod.

Is it ok to sync to the cloud with an iPod using wifi, or do I need to plug it in to my mac with USB and then sync?

Glad it is going OK, but that is a long migration. Very surprised. Guess you have a lot of text (?)

Anyway, the idea of iCloud sync is that you don't need to connect your iPod to the computer. You can sync from anywhere over a wifi or even mobile network. So, no, you certainly don't need to use USB and plug it in. Freedom ;^)

    Kind regards,
    Drew
