Certainly helps us track the issue.<br>
In general, it is a bad idea to switch iCloud syncing on and off.
The problems you encountered with ‘resetting data’ were
due to that. iCloud can get messed up if you do that, because it
continually replaces the cloud data, putting a lot of strain on
it.<br>
Once you turn on iCloud sync, you leave it on, unless you are
deliberately resetting the iCloud data.<br>

at all since you last assisted me with deleting the ubiquity file
and turning off the cloud sync at that time. This time I didn't
turn it off, the app did:</p>
<p>"Cloud data was reset on another device, or has been tampered
with. To protect your data, syncing has been disabled"</p>
<p>Not sure what would have caused this. If I tap iCloud Sync on
the iPod, but don't actually turn it off, that shouldn't be a
problem should it?</p></div>zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-23T23:31:26Z2013-07-23T23:31:26Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>That message usually occurs if you switch off iCloud on a
device, and the switch it on again, and choose to replace the cloud
data. The other devices will see this and realise they are no
longer compatible, and disable sync.</p>
<p>If you didn't turn it off, it is strange.</p>
<p>You can certainly look in the sync screen, but you should not
switch the sync switch.</p>
<p>Drew</p></div>drewmccormacktag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-27T22:32:41Z2013-07-27T22:33:34Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>Here is the latest. Yesterday I completed the schedule due
notes, about 90, and afterwards created 8 new cards on the mac app.
It automatically scheduled 7 of these as due notes and synced to
the cloud, so that the ipod also showed these as due. Not sure why
it didn't schedule or transfer the other new card to the
cloud/ipod-- it was in another stack. I expected more due notes to
show up today from my preexisting cards, but no new scheduling
occurred, though I'm sure it should have. Just now, when checking
the ipod app, I got a pop up titled "iCloud syncing has been
disabled due to a serious error." Then below it reads " A serious
error occurred while registering with iCloud. It is best to restart
you device, and wait for iCloud to sync up. If that doesn't help,
consider replacing the Mental Case data in iCloud."</p>
<p>So I tapped on OK, and the popup closed and the app showed 184
as Due for Study.</p></div>zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-27T22:59:52Z2013-07-27T22:59:52Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>Hmm. It seems like iCloud is really messed up. Maybe changes are
taking really long time to propagate to other devices. Those
messages about resetting should only happen if one of the devices
replaces the iCloud data while syncing is still turned on on other
devices. When the other devices notice the replacement, which could
be quite a bit later, they disable syncing.</p>
<p>I’m not really sure how to proceed. You are having a lot
more trouble than anyone else who has contacted us, and I think it
is almost certainly due to having a large library.</p>
<p>You can try the full reset — switching the iCloud switch
off in Mental Case on all devices and macs, then switching it back
on on your Mac to replace the iCloud data, waiting 10 minutes, then
switching it back on on a second device and choosing to keep the
new the iCloud data, etc — but maybe you will keep having
issues.</p>
<p>You may be better to stick to the original Mental Case app with
WiFi sync for now. We are looking at our options for sync going
forward, and I’m sure it will get better and more suited to
large libraries.</p>
<p>Kind regards,<br>
Drew</p></div>drewmccormacktag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-28T01:11:18Z2013-07-28T01:11:18Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>I do have a large number of notes, though keep in mind it is
less that 200MB in size.</p>
<p>Perhaps I'll have to try to be careful not to have the iPod app
and the mac app open at the same time.</p>
<p>I turned back on the iPod cloud sync and chose to keep the data
in the cloud. The cloud and the devise both appeared to be in sync
with the data on the mac app (at least the due notes were the same,
and the 8th card that I created yesterday is now showing up.). So I
don't know that it should have mattered which I kept.</p>
<p>Everything appears to be the same. So I'll try studying the due
notes. Not sure I'll get through all of them today because they
took so long to schedule. So I'll hope that that problem I've been
having with the iPod becoming sluggish when a custom lesson is
continued on the following day.</p>
<p>I would have gone back to the previous app already since I don't
care about cloud sync, except that it is the other new features of
the new app that I want. So if these reports that occasionally get
sent out by my devise when a fault occurs help, I'm hoping between
that going to you and my own experimenting, some solution will be
found to make this app usable.</p></div>zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-28T02:01:42Z2013-07-28T02:01:42Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>The data you choose to keep is very important.<br>
The app will look to see if the device library is descended from
the same original library as the sync data. If not, you get that
message, even if the notes data itself looks the similar or the
same.</p>
<p>Keeping the cloud data on your iPod is probably the best
approach, indeed.</p>
<p>Yes, your reports and crashes do help us improve the app.
Thanks!</p>
<p>Drew</p></div>drewmccormacktag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-28T15:30:23Z2013-07-28T15:30:23Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>Mental Case on my Mac hasn't been syncing for the past two days.
I otherwise do have Internet access, & am able to access my
iCloud via the Web.</p>
<p>I hadn't done anything to screw with my iCloud Sync settings
until this morning, when following the advice of this support note
(<a href=
"http://mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com/kb/mental-case-for-ios/icloud-sync-is-not-working-help">http://mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com/kb/mental-case-for-ios/icloud-sy...</a>),
I turned it off on both my Mac & my Touch, & then turned it
back on on my Mac. Nothing's changed, except that for the past
couple hours the Preferences window has been telling me that my
Data Transfer Status is 170.781 MB to upload, rather than the 18 or
so from before.</p></div>bobtag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-28T16:07:56Z2013-07-28T16:07:56Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>I have a similar issue today. Yesterday I did have a 100 Due
Notes sync as scheduled on both apps. I completed them yesterday.
Nothing new scheduled on the iPod, but when I turned on the mac
app, it scheduled 241. Yet these still apparently didn't sync to
the cloud and over to the iPod. I clicked on Sync to Cloud on the
mac (keep in mind, I am NOT turning on and off the sync to cloud
button) and it shows "Data Transfer Status: 4.698 MB to upload."
But there is no change in this. No upload activity. Usually you
will see this count down until it has uploaded everything and it
will say it is up to date. I turned off the mac app and turned on
the iPod app, and it now has 108 Due Notes. So it appears that the
4.98MB to upload from the mac may be the remainder of the 241 notes
that have yet to go to cloud and then to the iPod. Yet the mac and
the cloud don't seem to be in any hurry to resolve the 4.698MB the
mac says it has yet to upload.</p></div>zeppotag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/278925042013-07-28T22:54:10Z2013-07-28T22:54:10Zproblem syncing new notes on Mac to iPod<div><p>I’m afraid the upload is something we have no control
over. iCloud just chooses to upload the data when it thinks it is a
good time. This can take a while, unfortunately, and there is no
mechanism to speed it up :(<br>
Thanks for the report.<br>
Kind regards,<br>
