I create flashcard
databases for my students quite often and having to create study
archives is VERY time consuming. I would like to suggest one very
minor upgrade that would make things so much easier.

I would like to ask that we not have to zip everything to make a
study archive, but that we could just choose a csv or tsv file and
it could recognize and import audio and video if the text file is
created properly.

danzactag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/97181142011-09-02T21:07:59Z2011-09-02T21:07:59Ztsv and csv import

This actually already works. If you use four columns, and have
the name of a media file in two columns, it will look for that and
import it. See the help pages in the Mac app and search for
csv.

Of course, this is not a good way to distribute data, because
folders work badly on servers and in emails. That's why zipping is
much more convenient for sharing, and you can create hierarchy as
well.

This makes me very happy!

danzactag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/97181142011-09-05T14:04:37Z2011-09-05T14:04:38Ztsv and csv import

Ahh, this is still limited. It only does photos. I would like to
import just like in the study archive format

1 Text 1 audio 1 image 2 Text 2 audio 2 image

danzactag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/97181142011-09-05T14:25:42Z2011-09-05T14:25:42Ztsv and csv import

We'll look at supporting this. It might already be in the new
version.

bummer. I need to make over 2000 Russian flashcards right away.

carlyjbtag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/97181142011-09-16T16:13:12Z2011-09-16T16:13:12Ztsv and csv import

yes there is a way still, just not as simple <a href=

followed these instructions meticulously, but somehow it never
works. So I've always resorted to the CSV.

I can make the simplest studyarchive and will get a message
about it somehow being incorrect.

What I want is this:
1 Text, 1 Image, 1 Audio, 2 Text, 2 Image, 2 Audio

Most of the time 1 Image will be empty, and the 2 Image will be
there. Russian is in 1 Text and English is in 2 Text.

I've attached the CSV I"m working with.

carlyjbtag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/97181142011-09-16T16:33:00Z2011-09-16T16:33:00Ztsv and csv import

The first row in your csv/tsv needs to indicate how your text
is.

Second, your data needs to be perfect. If a file is misnamed, or
if your csv names a file that is not in the folder, an error will
occur and the import will stop.

I've actually requested a while back that Mental Case provide
some sort of "report" after an import, to inform the user of any
errors, instead of stopping the import, the import can continue and
just make note of the error for the user.

fyi, I've also requested that mass imports be made even more
simple and robust—like the PC app Memorylifter. For that app,
all of the media files can be in one folder and a csv/tsv can
indicate the case, the media, and any other "side" info (like tags,
etc). The csv/tsv would then create the cases upon import.

danzactag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/97181142011-09-16T16:35:08Z2011-09-16T16:35:08Ztsv and csv import

We will probably make this possible in future. For now, study
arch is the way to go.

It is not that complex.

Make a folder called Archive
In that, make folders Ungrouped and Groups
In Groups make a folder for your case (Russian)
In Russian, out your media files and Data.csv
Now zip the Archive folder by right clicking in finder and choosing
Compress

Done

If it doesn't work, you can send it to me to test.
