Sync
I just updated to Mental Case version 1.9 and now my Touch will
not sync with my laptop.
I have the Mental Case Lite version 2.0.3. I can connect via wi-fi
to my laptop with other apps but Mental Case can not find my
Touch.
I have followed all of the suggestions on the Support page-
creating a computer to computer network and have adjusted my
firewall settings. Still I can not connect! Please help.

That version of Mental Case will not sync with Mental Case Lite. Mental Case Lite is a product we stopped releasing about a year ago.
You have two choices: upgrade to the paid version of Mental Case for iPod touch, which is $2.99. This version requires iOS 4.0 or later.
Your other choice is to downgrade to an earlier version of Mental Case, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea, because the library file format has probably changed in the meantime.
Kind regards,
Drew

Drew, I 'bought' the desktop program over two years ago (at the same time I downloaded the app for my touch) and have been using it ever since. It has worked great, even through all previous updates. In fact, a ton of my friends have also bought the program after seeing me use it. Now suddenly, another 'new' version makes the app function unusable. I don't feel it is right to force your paying patrons to shell out more money just so that we can continue to use an app (one we are heavily invested in at this point) that has 'already been paid for'. That is a bit of an anti-trust issue if you ask me. Had I known this would happen I would not have made the update. (I think you should add such a disclaimer to the update notification.) I am still a college student, and therefore poor. Is there any way that you can help me out and push me the new app without charge so that I don't have to pay for the program twice!?! If this is not your department could you please forward me along to the right person for this request? Thanks for the help. If there is any way you could do it quickly it would really help as I have an exam on Mon. for which I have a ton of note cards that I can't use on my touch!
Thanks, Zach-

Hi Zach,
Software never works indefinitely. There is no software manufacturer who can continue to support all versions of an app forever.
We decided to change our product line up, and the lite version was unpopular, so we replaced it with a free classroom edition with different features. That was more than a year ago, which is a long time in iOS land. You can continue using that app, but it will not sync with the latest versions for Mac because we changed various aspects of syncing to make improvements.
Ultimately that is the choice we are faced with: do we make improvements, or do we leave everything exactly as it is so it will work forever? There is no question of 'anti-trust' or anything like that.
The paid version is $2.99, which I think is very cheap for something that can help you pass an exam. But here is a promo code for a free copy of 'Mental Case Flashcards HD' for iPad/iPhone:

Drew, Thank you very much for the help! The download worked and everything is syncing normally again.I really appreciate your concession on the app. As I continue to use your great product I will be sure to pass along its merits to all of my classmates!
Cheers, Zach-
