Shuffling of notes in lessons

Hi there,

Very impressed with the program so far - I'm still in my trial period, but one thing has been bugging me. I've been having some trouble getting notes in lessons to be shuffled - I want to use the right/wrong facilities that the lessons offer me, but it seems to just show me the cards in the order I created them, and I'm starting to know which questions are coming up next.

I thought it may be due to how I was sorting the notes in the viewer before running the case lesson, but that doesn't appear to make a difference, and I can't find a global 'shuffle lesson notes' setting. I know I can use the 'view notes in case shuffled' option, but this doesn't seem to allow me to mark questions right/wrong and have the results recorded.

Just to let you know, I have multiple cases nested within a case collection, and have tried running the lesson as 'view case lesson' with both the case collection selected, and with all the nested cases selected, but no joy.

Many thanks

    Hi Adam,
The lesson should shuffle itself automatically. The way this works at the moment is that when notes are rescheduled, a small random time is added, which means the scheduled dates vary. Next time you study, they should be out of order, because the order depends on how long they have been due.
The first time you study notes, they will be in order, but the next time, they should be shuffled.
Are you seeing something different to this?
In version 2.0, due in a few months, you have explicit control over the note order in lessons and other slideshows.
    Kind regards,
    Drew

    Hi Drew,

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

To be honest, I may be seeing what you describe, but I think the way I have things set up may have meant that I was seeing things in the order I've created them.

I'm studying for medical finals, lecture by lecture. So, I have multiple notes within cases - each of which comprises one lecture. These lecture cases are then grouped into case collections, and I'm running the 'case lesson' from that topmost case collection. As I've been creating the notes in order case-by-case, they seemed to be appearing within the lesson in that same order. As I haven't gone over all the notes once yet, it may be that they need studying once for the random time to be added to them?

Having said all that, I thought I'd try what you suggested and 'rescheduled' all the notes in the case lesson, and that seems to shuffle them. I wonder if you could just clarify for me what the reschedule function does to the notes?

Many thanks again, and very impressed with the program so far. Any more ideas as to the release date of version 2 and/or if you'll be running a beta program for licensed v1 users?

    Cheers,

    Adam

    Hi Adam,
Reschedule just sets the next due date into the future. It doesn't update number of times you studied the note.
Difficult to say when version 2 will arrive exactly, but it is still months away.
We will probably start beta testing in a month or two. Are you interested?
    Kind regards,
    Drew

    Drew,

Great, I'll use the reschedule function if it feels like things aren't shuffled then, and it should work fine.

Sure, you have my email if you need people for testing - more than happy.

    Cheers again,

    Adam
