I'd like to know whether the ability to import stacks from
Studies on Mac to iOS through usb will be implemented again.
The issue is that I have a HUGE library (over 6 gigabytes), which I
impossibly can update and sync over the cloud, having a bad
internet connection.
Thus, wired syncing is the only viable option for me.

I can't import MC2 archives anymore (as I could with the old
version) through MC iOS in iTunes, so each time I have to export
the stack I wanna learn, import them in a dedicated program for
file transferring (Fileapp in my case) and then use the option
"open in another application").

Now this works when the archive is no bigger than 400
megabytes.
A bigger size makes the MC iOS app crash.

So, will there be any improvement in the iOS Studies version
?

Peter Narkistag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/392711702016-02-27T09:57:13Z2016-02-27T09:57:13ZManually importing / syncing on Studies iOS ?

Unlikely. There is just not enough people who want to do this to
warrant what is quite a big feature. I think you are the first to
ask for USB sync back.

Sync of 6GB is not really viable anyway, whichever system you
use. Just too much data. That is why we added 'selective sync' in
studies. You can have your 6GB on the Mac, and just sync what you
are currently working on to iOS.

If you do want to use importing, you could export your data in
chunks of stacks that aren't too big (use Mental Case 2 Archive
format). You could transfer those to the iPhone using USB with a
file handling app that supports USB, and then use Open In... to
import. So you don't actually need MC or Studies to support USB
itself.

Kind regards,

the solution you're talking about is actually what I'm
doing.
So I can live with that.

Thing is, my stacks are about 90 Megs big and MC's having
trouble with imported data that's too voluminous. Experience taught
me that 200 megs is about the limit. 400 megs worked once or twice
for me, but is mostly crashing.

As Studies is supposed to handle large libraries well, can I
expect an improvement in the iOS version for that matter.

Peter Narkistag:mentalfaculty.tenderapp.com,2010-10-19:Comment/392711702016-02-27T10:33:00Z2016-02-27T10:33:00ZManually importing / syncing on Studies iOS ?

I think Studies should be somewhat better. It has a simpler
smaller internal data model.
But iOS devices are limited in RAM. If you have a problem in the
beta starting next week, might be worth sending us the archive, and
we can test and see if anything can be improved.
