odd crashing

Yesterday the app was crashing repeatedly after 15 -20 seconds of use . I think it began when I was doing nothing more than opening some cases to scroll through the names of the stacks I held in them. But it also happened when I started to "continue" studying due notes. Ultimately it culminated with the pop-up saying that cloud sync had been disabled. But the odd thing was during all these crashes, I had wifi turned off, and I have not had the cellular sync active for this app. So there should be no communication with the cloud anyway. Yet it also just so happens that all this started to occur while I was visiting a smaller town, which makes me wonder if loss of a good data connection with my phone provider was a factor, even though I can see no reason why it should matter given what I have already noted.

To top it off, I ended up doing a reset on both devices and deleted the library/applications folder for Studies last night but didn't follow up by turning the cloud back on. At that time I confirmed that data in the cloud was a few kb rather than the usual 35MB. Yet when I turned on the phone app this morning I got another pop up saying iCloud had been disabled, yet I had never turned it back on.

Resetting the cloud data will cause any devices that were still syncing to disable the sync. They see that as a change in the cloud data that they cannot track, so they disable the sync for safety. So that is at least normal.

The crashing is more a problem. I suspect it was sync related. Sync is not just downloading data, but also incorporating it in the local data store. That is actually the most expensive part. I suspect that even though you had no WiFi, the data was already downloaded at some point, and had not been imported yet, and it was trying to do that.

I have Settings>Studies>Background App Refresh switched ON. I only recently decided to give it a try. I have in the past set it to OFF , because I thought it might be contributing to crashing that I was getting so often. It's been a long time since I've turned it on, that I thought I'd give it a shot again. Probably a mistake to do so. I'm switching it back off.
