Please help! All cards with images are empty now!
Hi,
As your suggestion, I tried ANKI but I didn't like it especially the interface.
Now, I came back and bought Studies from Appstore (Before I download it from your website).
The problem is when I open Studies from Mac, the cards are all there but all the front and back images are gone.
When I check Studies from my iPhone, they are all still o.k. So I think it would be o.k. if mac version of Studies gets data from iPhone through iCloud. Please advise me on what to do for this case. Thanks.

Have you got the latest version on both devices?
If you let them sync up, do you see the images start to appear again? You may need to switch stacks back and forth to refresh.

Yes, I have the latest version for both devices.
I just let the mac version sit there since I was afraid it might erase iCloud data if I press the sync button. I see some cards beginning to show images. Please explain to me why I have an issue with images. I've never seen images disappeared before.

I think they are probably disappearing because I put in place your suggestion to remove old images :) You’re welcome.

Does removing the old images mean the duplicate images?
Then why the current images disappear?

Didn’t you say the images were starting to appear? You probably just need to wait until it syncs.

Yes but not all of them are shown. Some images (main and thumbnail) are still missing.
It seems that the sync is finished since the sync button reset to the non-sync mode by itself even if I press it,

If the iPhone has all the images, you may be best to clear the Mac data completely.
To do this, first check the iPhone really has the data, and then press reset on all devices. Then on the Mac, go to ~/Library/Containers and move com.mentalfaculty.studies.mac to the trash.
Finally, start the sync again.

Since you mentioned that pasting an image repeatedly would increase the size of any card, it would reduce the size of a card if I delete the card and then create one with the same front and back images. Is this right? Please confirm it. Thanks.

Creating a new copy of the card will create new copies of the images. The code does now clean up any old unused images over time now.

It is very strange that what I wrote in Dec 25 is gone. So I am writing again.
When I open Studies, I found out that many images are gone again. So I reset iCloud on that day since I was afraid that the data from iPhone could be affected.
Today, I also reset iCloud again and let data migrated from iPhone to mac.
I don't know if I can get all the images back or not.
My question is: Am I going to have this process of losing images in the future?

The initial migration seems to be working o.k. since I see 2/3 images are shown. So I quit Studies (mac version) and then reopen again. To my surprise, all the images are gone. Something is not working at all! I clicked on the sync button and nothing happens. It seems that Studies erases all iCloud data. I guess I have to reset iCloud again before quitting Studies. I don't think I can open Studies again until you fix this issue.

Are you sure you have the most recent version of Studies on the Mac? I haven’t heard from others of this problem. There was an issue with the previous release which could give this type of problem.

You should know that I didn't download Studies from your website. Recently I bought it through App Store. When I checked the version number, it is 1.7.5 (65). Is this recent enough?

If you like, you can export your iPhone library for me to use, to make the test more authentic.
You aren't doing anything odd, right, like importing your stacks over and over like you were before?
You can find the iPhone version of the app by opening the menu on the side, and looking in the contributions section.

The iPhone version number is 1.11.5.
I don't see any problem with iPhone since images are all there.
I don't need to import any stack from Mental Case anymore.
Actually I don't use Mental Case since you told me not to.
Please let me know how to export data from my iPhone and send it to you.

If you open the side menu, there is send and receive. In there, there is an Export Library option. Use that to put the file in Dropbox or Files and send that to me.

For now, you could try this:
- press reset on each device and Mac
- on Mac, go to ~/Library/Containers
- drag com.mentalfaculty.studies.mac to your desktop
- launch studies. Should be empty.
- start sync on both devices

So you completely removed the Mac library before?
So if I install on iPhone, then sync all to the Mac, the images should disappear? Anything else I need to do to trigger the problem?

Yes, At first I reset iCloud for both Mac and iPhone and I deleted the Mac
lib.
Then I turned on iCloud for iPhone and then quitted the iPhone Studies
after transferring
data to iCloud is done. Finally, I opened the Mac Studies and started to
sync and waited until
the sync completed.
That is all I have done so far!

We are working on it now. Seems there is a problem with the library export, so we need to fix that first to do the test.
