Please help! All cards with images are empty now!
Hi,
As your suggestion, I tried ANKI but I didn't like it especially the interface.
Now, I came back and bought Studies from Appstore (Before I download it from your website).
The problem is when I open Studies from Mac, the cards are all there but all the front and back images are gone.
When I check Studies from my iPhone, they are all still o.k. So I think it would be o.k. if mac version of Studies gets data from iPhone through iCloud. Please advise me on what to do for this case. Thanks.
Regards,
Hyo

We finished testing your library, and in our tests, everything synced over fine. It took quite a long time (about an hour or so), but everything from the iOS device appeared on the Mac.
So what I am thinking is that perhaps you thought it was not working, but it was working, and it was just taking a while.
The images come over last, so you will see most of the data appear, but with no images. Then you might see some images appear, but not all. If you wait long enough, all the images should appear. (They did in our test.)
So the recommendation is the same:
Now just be patient and wait. It will probably take up to an hour or so for all the data to download. After that it should sync in a few seconds. At least, that is what we are seeing here.
Kind regards,
Drew

Not sure why, but in the steps above, the app prompt says to wait 30 minutes after resetting all devices before turning on sync on the first device (with data you want to use). I presume in presume in Step 4 you mean that he should turn on sync, and then let it run 60 minutes (or watch the progress bar for it to complete). Just pointing it out in case that 30 minute wait is signifcant.

I just opened Studies from iPhone and found out that there is no response
to any touch for iCloud setting.
I can't reset cloud data nor I can slide switch on Sync Library via iCloud.
What seems to be the problem? I've never seen anything like this before.

I think it is syncing. It disables the switch when it is syncing. This fits the picture that it is still uploading stuff. Perhaps just let it continue.
Kind regards,
Drew

In that case, the slide (Sync Library via iCloud) should on the right side,
right?
But it is on the left side. It is very weird. Please advise me what to do!

This is probably not the case with you, hyaohn, but from someone who has been confused by this before, I will point out that the switch is the lighter shade, so when it is on the left, the right side will be a darker shade.
38 Posted by hyoahn on 20 Jan, 2020 06:05 PM
Yes, that is correct!

I actually had this problem last night, but there was no indication of a sync going on as far as a progress bar showing or the little rotating circular icon at the top of the app. Maybe in my case it was still completing some kind of data sorting offline in my case? At any rate, in my case I always save a copy of my mac library before doing a full sync to a reinstall of the phone app. Once you get this Export feature fixed, I'll start doing the same on the iOS side.

The issue was on the mac side not on the iPhone. The saved data was from
iPhone.
So please advise me on what to do next.
Also, please let me know how to check if I have the latest version of app
for both mac and iOS. Thanks.

The same is true on the Mac. If it is syncing, eg, downloading lots of images, the reset switch is disabled.
To check the app version:
- On Mac, choose Studies > About Studies
- On iPhone, open side menu, and click on the Contributions section at the bottom
Most recent mac version is 1.7.5
Most recent iOS version is 1.11.5
Kind regards,
Drew

I have the latest version of studies for both mac and iPhone.
But I can't do anything with the iPhone version of Studies since it is not
responding to any touch for iCloud thing.
I guess I have to delete the app and re-download it from App Store.
But before I do that, I need to make sure
that ExportedLibrary.studieslibzip could reproduce data from Mac side.
So please let me know how to import data from mac using
ExportedLibrary.studieslibzip. Thanks.

Hyo

I recommend you DO NOT delete the app. Try simply to kill the app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to show all the different screens, and swiping studies to the top.
If you find that the sync switch is still not working, that is probably because it is syncing. It is uploading a lot of data.
You can probably also stop it syncing by pressing reset on the Mac app. Then restart the iPhone app, and the sync should stop, and it will give you an error message.
Kind regards,
Drew

I tried to swipe from the bottom but it doesn't show all the different
screens.
And I also try to reset from Mac Studies as well.
But nothing helps.
The sliding switch is still on the left side (which means that it is not
syncing at all)
and doesn't respond to any touch.
If there is a way to import ExportedLibrary.studieslibzip from mac, then
this is a way to
resolve the issue. If not, please advise me on what to do. Thanks.

OK, on that iPhone you double click the home button at the bottom to show the different screens of the apps. (Newer iPhones use the swipe from bottom)
Try killing the app, or even restarting the iPhone, to see if it helps.

I knew how to kill the app by double-clicking the home button and I have
already done it before.
And it doesn't help!!!

If you go into the Settings app, are you signed in to iCloud? And is iCloud Drive turned on?
48 Posted by hyoahn on 22 Jan, 2020 08:32 AM
Yes, it is turned on.
Support Staff 49 Posted by drewmccormack on 22 Jan, 2020 08:38 AM
OK, we have someone investigating.
Support Staff 50 Posted by drewmccormack on 22 Jan, 2020 08:39 AM
One question: if you go into Settings app, in the iCloud section, and then iCloud Drive > Manage, do you see Agenda in the list of apps?
51 Posted by hyoahn on 22 Jan, 2020 08:43 AM
I don't see "Agenda" in the list.
Support Staff 52 Posted by drewmccormack on 22 Jan, 2020 08:46 AM
Sorry, I meant “Studies”. Is Studies in the list?
53 Posted by hyoahn on 22 Jan, 2020 08:47 AM
Yes, it is in the list!
Support Staff 54 Posted by drewmccormack on 22 Jan, 2020 08:49 AM
OK, we have someone looking into why the switch is not active. Very odd.

O.K.
Also I would like to know if it is possible to import data from mac using
ExportedLibrary.studieslibzip.
Support Staff 56 Posted by drewmccormack on 22 Jan, 2020 09:14 AM
The Mac has no export option, but you can create a zip file to do that. However, there is an issue in the iOS app that prevents importing the library. We have a fix for that, and will put out a new release soon.
Drew

This is a different case though!
ExportedLibrary.studieslibzip is an exported data from iPhone.
And I want my mac to import this data.
Support Staff 58 Posted by drewmccormack on 22 Jan, 2020 09:27 AM
You said “from Mac”, so I assumed you meant you wanted to move your data from Mac to iPhone.
Anyway, yes, you can put the data on your Mac:
1. Make a copy of the zip file
2. Select the zip file and choose File > Get Info
3. Change the extension from studieslibzip to zip
4. Now double click the file to unpack it. You should see one folder called Studies
5. Choose Go > Go to Folder
6. Enter
~/Library/Containers/com.mentalfaculty.studies.mac/Data/Library/Application Support
(Only space is after ‘Application')
7. Drag the Studies folder you got out of the zip into the Application Support folder, and replace the existing Studies folder there. (This will delete any data on the Mac)
8. Launch Studies

From your help, I was able to get data back for my mac version of Studies.
If you agree, I will try to delete iPhone-Studies and download a fresh copy
of it.
Then I will try to sync from mac to iPhone.

Sounds OK. As long as the Mac has all your data.
