Please help! All cards with images are empty now!
Hi,
As your suggestion, I tried ANKI but I didn't like it especially the interface.
Now, I came back and bought Studies from Appstore (Before I download it from your website).
The problem is when I open Studies from Mac, the cards are all there but all the front and back images are gone.
When I check Studies from my iPhone, they are all still o.k. So I think it would be o.k. if mac version of Studies gets data from iPhone through iCloud. Please advise me on what to do for this case. Thanks.
Regards,
Hyo

It is working great! Thank you so much.
Now, I think I need to resolve the multiple-image issue.
Please let me know if the following procedure is buyable.
(1) Let say if I have a card (A) with multiple images and I created a new
card (B).
(2) Copy the front image of A and paste it into the front image of B.
(3) Do the same for the back image
(4) Delete the card A
(5) a newly created card B is free from a multiple-image issue.
Regards,
Hyo

Sorry, i'm not sure if i understood you correctly.
Are some of your cards has more than two images and you are looking to make them only two sided? (front & back)

I think Drew can answer my question.
The multiple-image issue is originated from accumulated images by
multiple-pasting.

And I am trying to resolve this issue.

I don't know what you are trying to do either. But whatever it is, don't do that. Let Studies handle it. It does create duplicate images sometimes, and now it goes back in future and cleans them up if they are not used. It won't do this immediately, but usually in a day or two it will remove any image it doesn't need.
There is nothing you can do as a user that will improve this. Studies will handle it.

I just want to replace a card with muliple images with a new card with
single image by the steps I showed.
Previously you mentioned that multiple pasting create multiple images!!!
66 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 11:12 AM
Since the newly created card has only a single pasting, it will be free
from multiple images.
Please confirm that if I am right or not!
Support Staff 67 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 11:27 AM
No, that is probably not right. Each image you see in the UI is a separate image file. So if two facets have the same image, that will be two different files on disk.
Drew

When I say "single image", it is for one facet.
I am just trying to make things simple here.
69 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 11:36 AM
This kind of approach would take some time since I have to do everything
manually.
But I think this is the right direction avoiding the multiple-image issue
until you fix it.
Support Staff 70 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 11:39 AM
It will never be fixed, because for sync purposes, it is very difficult to determine when two image files belonging to different notes should or should not be removed. You might remove one note, but the other still needs that image. So we treat each image as unique, even if it is exactly the same image on two different facets or in two different notes.

I am talking about the situation when I paste an image on one facet
multiple times.
And I think you can fix this issue, right?
Support Staff 72 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 11:45 AM
Yes, that is already fixed. Once an image file is not used anymore, ie, does not appear in any of your notes, the file will be removed, usually within a day or two.
Kind regards,
Drew

This means that I don't need to do what I am trying to do then.
I can now modify a card by pasting an image without worrying about making
multiple images, right?
Support Staff 74 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 12:22 PM
If you only paste an image into one facet, there will only be one image file. If you paste the image twice, into different facets, that will be two images.

I just opened mac-Studies and found out that all of the cards are empty.
Not again!!!!
I am just sick and tired of seeing cards become empty!
Please explain why this is happening again.
76 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 05:35 PM
It seems that the routine that removing multiple images also deletes the
original images (front and back) as well.
If you cannot fix this routine, please just remove this routine from the
code since I have not been able to work since
the last December due to this issue. I would rather live with multiple
images than live with disappearing images.
Support Staff 77 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 05:51 PM
This is only happening to you. I have no idea why.
Have you still got the library with no images on it? Can you zip it up and send it send we can see what might have gone wrong?

I will investigate, but please tell me exactly what this means "It seems that the routine that removing multiple images also deletes the
original images (front and back) as well.”
What are you doing exactly? Can you perhaps send screenshots of what you do when you “delete the original images”?
I am trying to understand what you are doing to trigger this.
Do you delete them in Finder or something like that?
Drew
80 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:23 PM
I didn't do anything at all!
I just opened Studies and found out that all images are gone!!!
81 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:26 PM
It seems that your routine that removes multiple images might removed the
original images as well.
You also mentioned that this routine removes multiple images in a day or so.
This statement makes sense to me since I synced devices yesterday!
82 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:28 PM
You need to check your routine that removes multiple images.
Disappearing images never happened before you implemented this routine last
December.
Support Staff 83 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 06:40 PM
Yes, but you are doing something different, because other people do not see this.
Are you copying the images from one facet to another, and then deleting them from one facet?
Kind regards,
Drew
84 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:42 PM
No!
I didn't do anything at all.
I just opened Studies and found out all images are gone.
85 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:46 PM
All I did yesterday was to create two cards and synced through iPhone and
it worked!
I was quite happy about it since everything was working fine.
Support Staff 86 Posted by drewmccormack on 23 Jan, 2020 06:46 PM
But did you do anything before you last quit the app?
87 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:49 PM
No, I didn't do anything before I quit.
I am opening Studies now.
I see the number of cards still the same.
If I delete something, then the number should be reduced!!!
88 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 06:54 PM
I strongly think that you should examine the routine that removes multiple
images.
I think that routine is the culprit that removed all of my images.

And you don’t have anything on your Mac that is unusual (?) Eg. is your user folder just on the Mac like normal? It is not mounted from a different disk, or over the network?
And you don’t have any special clean up software running that is designed to make more disk space or anything, right?
90 Posted by hyoahn on 23 Jan, 2020 07:04 PM
Everything is normal as far as I can tell.
And I don't use the clean-up app either.
