Changing paragraph style
I have a note that when I edit an use the carrage return key, doesn't go to the next line, but skips a line. I would say it is automatically double line spacing with a carriage return, because that's how it appears when editing, except that when done editing, in the context of a study session, the gap it creates looks more like three lines.
I can't figure out how to change this style?
The problem began when I had used bullets to begin new paragraphs, didn't like them and deleted them out so would stop creating bullets. But now when I used the carriage return I find that, while it is no longer creating bullets, it creating a vertical gap beyond what is a normal line gap.

I think you probably had some HTML in there for the list, and something from that is still there causing the spacing.
Have you tried copying the text, deleting it all, and then using Edit > Paste and Match Style?

Tried it per your suggestion, but after the "paste and match" it still adds an extra line after hitting the return key (instead of positioning the cursor at the next line, it drops down two lines).

It occurred to me that since the prompt card was not having the issue, I could try the 'paste and match' of the saved 2nd facet text into that one first to try to 'dislodge' whatever HTML might be attached to the text I want in the second facet.
Then I 'selected all' and deleted the text of the 2nd facet. Finally, after copying the text from the first facet I had intended for the 2nd facet, with a 'paste and match' into the 2nd facet I was successful in being rid of whatever the problem was (though I had to go back in and restore bold and colored text where I wanted it.).
Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, the rich text can be tricky. Glad you solved it.
I usually select all in the text area, press delete, and then use paste and match style. Often works.
