Some suggestions
Hi there.
First of all, english is not my primary language, so I will make
some mistakes or make phrases difficult to understand. Sorry about
that, and please if you have any doubt just write me.
I've using Mental Case intensively during the this last academic
year. I'm a medical student, and my results using this program were
excellent. Doing and studying almost 6000 notes allowed me to
detect some flaws in the program, and miss some features I'm going
to share with you and hoping you will consider them.
- The program really needs a printing option to allow print the
notes as a list, so you can have a quick reference for review. The
option that almost do that is "8 by 2", but the number of notes in
a page is low and the text is too small. I've tried exporting to
comma or tab separated field and print in other programs like
Excel, but it's messy when you have notes with more than one line
(as do almost all my notes). I have to say, I really need this
option to review subjects I'm studying now in future courses. - The
program lacks a way to "preview" or "inspect" a note, something
like "quick look". If I'm in list view in the library (which is the
most useful view when you have a lot of notes) and I want to see
the note, because it has an image or the text exceeds the space,
now I have to enter the note to edit mode, and even then the image
is really small or I have to navigate to see all the text. The only
way I now to see a note in a proper way is entering study mode and
search it, which is slow and tedious. - There is a little bug in
the custom study menu: in advanced options, shuffled order is
activated for defect, but expanding the menu reveals that "order in
stack" is also active. If you in fact want to activate "order in
stack" you must select first shuffled (so now it is the one
activated only) and then select "order in stack". It's not a big
deal, but maybe you can correct it. - Being able to study only
flagged items in a stack (or a case, even better) is missing, and
it would be an awesome option to review important notes from a
subject. - Maybe this is stupid, but I think it would be useful,
during studying, using a slideshow mode, as a "repass/revise mode".
That also, I think, would allow to program better the time for
study in "some of those crazy moments during the day". - In the
list view if the answer has lines than doesn't fit they are set
immediately after the last line that fits, which would be really
good if there was a separator of some kind (a symbol or something).
There is another weird thing I've noticed. I guess it has a purpose
I don't get, but in the list view the last 2-3 letters of the text,
when it doesn't fit the vertical space, is substituted by three
dots even if there is room to print it on the screen.
Well, I think thats all. I hope you don't get mad. Overall I think the program is awesome and is helping me through my studies just as it is, but with some modifications I think it would be perfect (for me at least). Also, I know it is impossible to create a program that fits all the users. I only hope you find that some of my suggestions useful.
Best regards.
Miguel
