cram importing with audio by default
The notes I create on Cram are now automatically importing an automated recording of the words on the cards. This would actually be pretty cool if the voice could recognize and speak Spanish. But since it can't, I would like to turn this off. Otherwise, every time I study a card now it plays the audio of the automated voice reading the card, with English pronunciation of Spanish words.
How do I keep it from importing this to the iPod?

Hmm, we didn't change anything, as far as I remember. I guess that audio is on the Cram cards, correct? If you go to the web site, do you hear that audio?
We can't really control the content of the cards downloaded. I think you would either have to choose a different card set, without audio, or turn down your audio on the device. You could also go through and delete the audio after it downloads, I suppose. Bit tedious.
Can you maybe send an example of a card set I can search for and test?

I am having a similar problem. In the past month my cards with photos on cram.com no longer have photos in mental case and appear as audio files instead

Do you have a link or way for me to find one of the sets with this problem?
Do the cards work properly on the web site? Is the issue only in Mental Case?

Hi Drew,
Thanks for your help. The cards work fine on cram.com, but there are no pictures when imported into mental case. I think this change has correlated with the launch of Mental Case 2 as everything was working fine back in March. I am user sbrownsc on cram.com and one of the sets that does not work is Bone path-KD (link below)

Hi Sara,
Do you have the latest version of the app?
Are you on iOS 7?
I was able to download you images (see screenshot).

Hi Drew,
I do not have mental case 2 (I prefer wifi syncing over cloud) and there are no updates available on my ipad for the old mental case. What version should I have of the old mental case and where can I find it if not listed as an available update on my ipad?
Best,
Sara

I have the newest iOs-I had 7 and then last night I upgraded to the newest version to see if it would fix my mental case problem...(It didnt...)

Hi Sara,
I'm afraid we no longer update the old version. It is not practical to keep updating different apps.
Cram changed their service recently, and that is why the old app no longer works with Cram.
You can still keep using the old app, but it won't work with Cram. You could possibly download the data on your Mac instead. Mental Case 2 on Mac will sync over wifi with that older version, and also should support the latest Cram service.
Hope that helps.
Kind regards,
Drew

Hi Drew,
Thank you again. I still do not understand what I need to do in order to use both my old notecards and my new ones on my I pad. If I purchase Mental Case 2 on my ipad, will all of my cram.com cards work again? I have no idea how to use cloud but maybe I have to in order to resume my studies? I am taking my medical board exams in a month so this is a pretty stressful time to be losing all of my cards...

Hi Sara,
I recommend not doing this before your exams. Best to get that out of the way first.
When that is over, you can purchase MC2 on your iPad. It is a separate app, so you can't lose your old MC data. You can migrate your data across to the new MC2 app by pressing a button.
With MC2, Cram will work again for you.
But as I said, best not to do that at a stressful time in case something goes wrong.
Kind regards,
Drew

Thank you. The problem is, I have about 500 cards with photos that I am not able to study on my ipad at the moment-of course these are all the cards that I have just created and they are the ones I need. On the mental case website, there is something mentioned about obtaining Mental case 1.9. Is there any way I can get hold of that version? If I did, do you think 1.9 would work with cram.com? Just looking for a temporary solution...
Best,
Sara

Hi Sara,
Can't you download the cram cards with MC2 on the Mac, and then sync them over WiFi with your iPad?
The Mac app should be able to download the cram images.
Kind regards,
Drew

You are right. It turns out they are in my cram notes. I created the notes by importing from a Google Docs spreadsheet. But a positive change has occurred as of April 22. The cards that generated on cram up to the 21st were getting English spoken pronunciations of Spanish words, and bad attempts at that. But the most recent set that I created was on April 22, and in that set, to my surprise, the Spanish words have loaded a Spanish speaker with proper pronunciation. It's pretty awesome actually. I like it.
But is there a way to turn off the audio when I study, or is my only choice to turn down the volume to zero?

At the moment you would just have to turn down the volume. No option for studying without.
Will add that as a feature request.

I don't imagine it's possible, but if there is any way that I could resync my existing stacks with Cram so that I can import the sound files that Cram now attaches to the cards, without losing my study history (and thus future scheduling), that would be awesome.
As I look through my Cram stacks now, I see that the audio is there even for my oldest stacks. I'm not sure why some of them have audio of an English pronunciation of Spanish text. There must have been some error at some point when they transitioned in this audio, or perhaps coincidentally just for a period of time when I was creating some new stacks on Cram (via import from Google spreadsheet). But my oldest stacks do have the appropriate Spanish audio. This adds a new dimension to studying these cards that I didn't have originally.
Actually, scratch that request. It's probably best that my audio scheduling be separate anyway. And I would only want the Spanish cards as the prompts.

It’s a good request, but I can’t really think of a way you could do this, short of downloading a new set, and transferring the audio between cards one at a time. That would, of course, be too troublesome.
But it sounds like you would prefer to keep audio separate anyway, so we’ll leave it for now.
