Syncs on some networks and not others
I have moved into a new apartment that has a wireless network but I cannot sync my iPhone and Mac. It worked at the house I just moved from where I had my own Airport network and it works at my place of business. Computer-to-computer works sometimes and not others.

Hi Rod,
Unfortunately, if your devices are on different subnets, they can't see each other. Company and college networks usually don't work because the iPhone is assigned a different subnet.
A computer-to-computer network should generally work. Bonjour can sometimes be temperamental, but if everything is setup right, it should work.
Kind regards,
Drew

Thanks, Drew. It's a minor glitch in a great, very much used, app. C2C seems to be working right now. When it doesn't I can use the network at work.
Is there something I can have the apartment owner do so that my phone and Mac are on the same subnet?
Rod

Hi Rod,
If it is just a local wifi router, you can get them to check if there are firewalls, and make sure that your Mac and iOS device are allocated the same subnet. Most home wifi units will only use one subnet, so if it is not working, and there is no firewall, it is a bit of a mystery.
The router does need to support Apple's Bonjour, which most do, but that could also be an issue.
Kind regards,
Drew
